Salutations Ya’ll,

I am currently trying to plan and plot in preparation for the Leviathan that Is Nation November Writing Month or NANOWRIMO. I found a great resource for that planning out a strong story to see me through the storm. You can also download the NANOWRIMO prep guide. I would like to think the admin of my local Nano Facebook, Alicia Hollenbek group for posting the link. You may need to speed up the timeline it lays out to get ready for it, as I have, but nothing worth it is ever easy, right?

In that vein there is another little experiment I thought would be great to try. Working with people. I know, I know. We writers are, as a rule, an antisocial little bunch. And let’s be honest, it is what I love about us. Still, change forces growth, so I joined a Facebook group in my area that organizes write-ins during Nano. Doing this Is kind of like Hulk agreeing to stay on the Helicarrier In Avengers. Not that I have a temper, but me and crowds have lived with a certain understanding. They don’t like me and I look at them fondly from a safe antisocial distance. So, what could possibly go wrong. But hey It’s the year for moving out of my comfort zone. I am on Facebook, Instagram and twitter now. Why stop there.

Later this week, a day or two after I post this actually, I will be boarding a plane for Iceland. What better way to launch my Instagram and twitter presence than with my first International trip? I’m not sure what to expect, but I am sure there will be fun and wonder for all. My next planned blog will tell you all about It. It is writing relate after all. In the way that all life experience Is writing related. I have been making more of an effort to get out there and move out of that aforementioned comfort zone. How can any of us write about new fantastical adventures If we never take the opportunity to have them ourselves. These don’t have to be as grand as a trip to another country, just something new and awkward for you. Stagnation is the enemy of progress after all.

Moving forward, my plan with this blog is to update every two weeks. If life allows I will certainly do so more often, but every two Friday’s you should look here for new content. There will be articles on writing from my years of practice and study of the craft. There will be articles on my new endeavors and their success and failures. Finally, there will be life articles so you can get to know me. When I was younger the thing that always drew me to a new author was their life story. What kind of person were they? What were their struggles? I fell in love with Kafka because of his struggle to be heard. I consumed Thoreau because of his fight to change a world he had to live In. I was infatuated with Poe for his love of the macabre, his fight to make a living as a writer and a life plagued with strife that only fueled him.

So, “Let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of kings…” (Richard III)
