Salutations Ya’ll,
Sorry I am late this week. Turns out spending an entire week in another country and jumping back into work makes it hard to stay on a writing schedule. But I am here now and let’s get into it.
This week I will briefly discuss my trip to Iceland and then talk about Prep for Nanowrimo. The trip was a week-long excursion with four friends. There was hiking and reading, everything one needs for a great break. Nanowrimo is fast approaching and by the late release of this blog likely a day away.
I arrived in Iceland Sunday at 6:00am. It was raining and cold. The one constant to overcome in that beautiful land was the wind. No matter the temperature that wind blew hard, long and cold. As long as you are well insulated, however, it is a great country to visit.
The things to know if you ever want to include Iceland in your writings.
It is the land of never-ending waterfalls and rainbows. We visited three major falls and drove past countless smaller ones. And this is just the southern tip. Two of the three sprayed mist so hard that it was like standing in a rain storm. The water that flowed from them was clear and inviting even in the cold air.
The black sand beach, Sólheimasandur, on the southern tip is a two-mile hike from the parking lot. It is all across fairly level ground, so as long as the weather is nice it’s a pleasant walk. Before you get to the beach you can visit a crashed airplane from the US. Honestly, I didn’t see the draw to the airplane. The beach, however was beautiful. The sun pushed through a hole in the clouds on the only day the winds were silent. The light traced the water as it rolled onto the black sands.
I climbed on a glacier that toward above the land. Solid Ice sprinkled with black sands. From a distance it looked like earth and ice intertwined. A river flowed from the base carrying large chunks of ice that drifted toward land. It was a world that was cold and fresh. An experience I was fortunate enough to share with real friends.
Nanaowrimo prep
I have created a profile on nanowrimo.org. My name is esoterictruths. It has enabled me to add “buddies” the sites equivalent to friends on Facebook. I am not sure to what extent this allows us to interact with each other. This will be my first year officially taking part in the event.
I have begun character development and story outline I hope to have at least half completed by November 1st when we begin. The goal is to hit 50,000 words by the end of the month. The greater goal is to come out of the month with a better writing schedule and a novel close to completion. I thought about bringing in any one of my half-completed works. However, in the spirit of Nano I have decided to go with a completely new work of fiction.
